| Thallus sparse, dispersed-verrucose to verruculose, yellowish green to yellowish grey, epruinose, glossy. Soredia absent. Prothallus not visible. Apothecia sessile, 0.4–1.0 mm diam.; disc orange-brown to pale red-brown, slightly greyish-pruinose; margin concolorous with the thallus, thick, verrucose to crenulate. Cortex hyaline, basally gelatinous, inspersed with numerous small crystals, c. 10 µm thick laterally and 25–30 µm thick basally. Amphithecium with small crystals that dissolve in KOH, and densely packed algal cells; algal layer continuous below the hypothecium. Parathecium hyaline, without crystals, 10–15 µm thick. Epihymenium orange-brown, K–, c. 10–15 µm thick, with crystals soluble in KOH. Hymenium and subhymenium hyaline. Hypothecium hyaline, thick and gelatinous. Paraphyses sparingly branched and unthickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 12.0–15.5 × 5.5–7.0 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K–, C–, Pd–; containing placodiolic acid (major), usnic acid (major), isousnic acid (minor) and pseudoplacodiolic acid (minor). |  |
